Statement of Need

Cold Agglutinin Disease (CAD) is an idiopathic disease that primarily effects patients over 60, and patients with this benign rare blood disorder frequently present to the emergency department with bleeding-related issues. Because of this, it is important for physicians and other health care professionals in the ED to be educated about optimal approaches for treating and monitoring patients with CAD.

In this CME Outfitters Snack, updated guidelines and new treatments are highlighted in a video case identifying CAD in the ED and providing appropriate management, including ensuring best practices for blood testing and blood transfusion in patients with CAD.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this CE activity, participants should be able to:

• Recognize and manage complications associated with benign rare blood disorders such as CAD in the emergency department setting.
• Evaluate clinical data for the efficacy and safety of current and emerging treatments for benign rare blood disorders.
• Implement personalized, evidence-based approaches to managing benign rare blood disorders in the emergency department setting.
